Crowns
A crown is recommended when a tooth is found to be partially destroyed by decay, broken, worn, cracked or discolored. Over time our teeth begin to weaken and become more susceptible to these problems. In these cases, a simple filling or bonding will not be sufficient. Crowns can be made from gold, porcelain fused to metal, porcelain and zirconia. In more esthetic zones, and in order to maintain a natural look, a porcelain or zirconia crown is best as it can be matched to the shade of the existing teeth. The crown will blend in and appear just like one of your natural teeth. Crowns are cemented onto the existing prepared tooth and fully covers the entire portion of the tooth above the gum line. A crown will be custom made and will be unique to your tooth, bite and jaw movements.
